The Career Wisdom of Steve Jobs

by Janet Cranford

I’ve always thought of Steve Jobs as someone who knew how to listen to his heart and stay true to his dream. He was able to maintain his vision even when things weren’t going well for him.

A year after he was diagnosed with cancer, he gave a commencement speech to graduating students at Stanford. But his wisdom is relevant for people of any age. Three of his messages really resonate with me:

  • “You have to trust in something.” You can’t know how things are going to turn out. But you can have faith that everything will come together at some point in the future.
  • “You’ve got to find what you love.” Keep looking and don’t settle for less. This message is for everyone! Not just for certain “special” people.
  • “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.” Shut out all the outside noise, listen to your own voice, and then follow where it leads.

When you follow your authentic path, the future may be unclear. But the cost of not following it is huge. It’s not simply about regrets you may have in the future. It’s about the people you’re here to serve, your role in creating the change that’s so sorely needed in the world.

It’s not too late to be who you were meant to be.

“It’s not too late to be who you were meant to be..”
THAT SAYS IT ALL! I’m going after something I’ve wanted all my life — in what is known as “the young man’s business”. But I’ve never been one to take too many folk serious, so I-a gonna do it! Come visit me!

Kevin, I just visited your website and listened to some of your music. All I can say is, wow! You have a real talent. I’m so glad you’re going after what you’ve always wanted. And you’re right, it is absolutely never too late.
